Most junior developers think senior engineers know more tricks.

They usually do not.

They just create fewer problems for the next person.

That is the painful difference.

I used to think clean code meant elegant code. Then I worked with engineers who had carried broken systems through production incidents, late-night rollbacks, half-migrated databases, unclear ownership, angry customers, and codebases nobody wanted to touch. Their code was not flashy. It was not full of clever abstractions. It did not look like something written to impress Twitter.
